The Amboseli National park located in Loitoktok province in the Rift valley province is one of Kenya’s top safari destination popular with its biggest number of elephants living together in the world. The park spans a wide area of 39,206 hectares (392 km2; 151 sq. mi) in size at the core of an 8,000 square kilometres (3,100 sq. mi) ecosystem that spreads across the Kenya-Tanzania border.
Also known as “the Kilimanjaro Royal Court”, The Amboseli is crowned by Mount Kilimanjaro; Africa’s highest mountain and the second largest mountain in the world. The Amboseli derives its name from the Masai word meaning “salty dust”, and it is one of the best places in Africa to view large herds of elephants up close. The park offers a wide range of amazing flora and fauna. The big five can easily be seen hunting down there prey like Zebras, antelopes, gazelles and many other. There are hundreds different species of bird life in the wild ranging from Ostriches to Eagles. The masai villages are nearby the park and can be visited to experience the Masai culture; one of the long lived cultures in Africa. While at the Amboseli, you will be able to catch a spectacular view of the Mount Kilimanjaro.
The Amboseli has a natural all round water bed that is filtered through thousands of feet of volcanic rock from Kilimanjaro’s ice cap which channel its waters to the two water springs in the park. This attracts large volumes of wildlife that come to quench their thirst at the water points and this triggers dramatic fit for survival actions of the Prey versus the predators
